All I See Is Air

I look across the room,

and you're smiling back at me.

I open up my eyes,

and I'm terrified to see

that you are gone.

I look across again,

and I see your smilin' eyes.

I look across once more,

but it's too late to realize

that you are gone.

You are gone.

Maybe it was better having you here

so near to me.

But maybe it is better now that you're away.

You never heard a word I'd say anyway,

even though I tried

to let you know that I care.

I tried to let you know I'd be there

if you need a friend forever.

I look across for the last time,

and I pray that you'll be there.

I open up my eyes,

and all I see

is air.
